Project Statement

This sketchbook was created to be more desirable and easier to use then other sketchbooks while maintaining minimalistic aesthetic. My goal was to create a sketchbook that got rid of the problems in normal sketchbooks and notebooks I had used before. I wanted to find a solution in making the book flat at all times so there was no annoying spirals or bending of the pages to get in the way of your hand when sketching or writing, making it heavier with a cover that has more grip so that it does not slide as easy, and have the pages open from the sides to allow the book to be double the width of a normal sketchbook. I believe the outcome was successful in tackling the problems with normal sketchbooks and making it more satisfying to use.

Reflection

I learned a lot with material studies, using new materials such as laminate flooring, elastic, faux leather, and necklace clasps. I also learned more in depth about the laser cutting process and what it can do. I overcame thinking up solutions to fixing problems that I have with current sketchbooks and how to get them to work. I also overcame the problem of running out of enough material and being able to use what I had left and making it work. I discovered that I need to be more careful with how much material I am using, as well as making sure that I am aware of all of the settings on the laser cutter to make sure that everything is correct before I start cutting.
