Project Statement
I chose two Latin words to mash up because to me Latin makes everything seem more serious and intimidating and I wanted to make a serious and dramatic word. I created “Deumbrus” to be a powerful word that almost brings chills knowing the direct translation. My goal was to make a ‘mashup’ that seemed like it could be a real word and also be extremely dramatic and carry a heavy weight behind the meaning. I also wanted to make sure that I could bring my idea to life and show off the word while making it out of the mashed word itself. I believe the outcome was successful in using the letters to create this God figure, as well as how the two words came together to create the ‘mashup’ which seems like it could be a real Latin word.

Reflection
I learned how to create 3D looking letters in adobe illustrator as well as how to use certain tools in sketchbook. I also learned that English words are boring for this type of task, and I realized why companies and brands name their products with words in different languages, especially cars. I overcame a mental block in trying to figure out how I would get the words to represent the God figure and how I would show his shadow. I discovered during this process how much fun it was to create my own word and get to come up with an interesting way to show it off. I discovered colors to pick from that represent the God figure but after the colors I decided on, it may have been too bright and joyful of colors compared to the word and if I were to do it again, I would make it darker and look more dramatic.
