Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness:

I plan to attend a service trip with the Medlife club at some point during my time at Ohio State. I am currently a member of Medlife. At least once a year they take a trip to another country to work with underprivileged communities and provide them with medical help, as well as to teach them good hygiene practices. One of the places that they sometimes travel to is Cusco, Peru, which I am very interested in visiting. In addition, I am interested in minoring in Spanish to learn more about the Spanish culture, as well as to be able to communicate with people in other parts of the world.

Original Inquiry:

During my time at Ohio State I plan to participate in research. I am interested in participating in either biological or medical research. Furthermore, I am planning on trying a variety of different types of research to see what I like the most.

Academic Enrichment:

I chose to study biology because I am very interested in learning more about living processes and the world around me. I want to attend medical school to become a doctor, so studying biology will allow me to understand not only how humans function, but also the processes that all living organisms share as well as how their environments affect them. These varying perspectives of life on Earth will allow me to have a better understanding of how the biological processes of humans relate to other life. Also, I plan on minoring in Spanish to give myself a more diverse understanding of different cultures and to allow me to possibly better communicate with others one day in the medical field.

Leadership Development:

I am currently a member of the Medlife club, so I plan to hold a position on the executive board during my time at Ohio State. In addition, I plan to join the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, which is a National Co-ed Fraternity that promotes leadership. While in this fraternity, I also plan to hold an executive board position.

Service Engagement:

During my time at Ohio State, I plan to volunteer at the Wexner Medical Center. Also, over the summers I plan to volunteer at my local hospitals, the Cleveland Clinic and the Akron General. I am also currently a member of the Smiles with Style service club at Ohio State. This club works with children with chronic diseases and their families to help alleviate their anxiety, and to bring some happiness and optimism into their lives. In addition, as I have stated in the previous categories, I am currently a member of the Medlife club and plan to join the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity which are both service based organizations.
