G.O.A.L.S.

As a student at the Ohio State University, I look beyond the standard academics to enrich my experience and assist in creating experiences for others as well. My interests cover a broad range, from the engineering SAE Supermileage club where I’m involved in developing an improved steering system, to musical ensembles such as Buckeye Philharmonic in which I am co-concertmaster. Beyond the depth of academia, there is an equal importance in social and educational extracurricular experiences.

G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I’m looking to expand my view of the world by partaking in a study abroad program such as the Australia: Human Impacts on the Natural Environment summer program. I also plan on taking a Comparative Studies course with hope of learning more on the diversity and differences of cultures within science, literature, and technology. Furthermore, my involvement in various clubs allow me to meet people from numerous backgrounds.

Original Inquiry: Over the previous two summers, I carried out research at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute, under Dr. Qing Wang, studying the effects of certain genetic variants on heart diseases such as atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease, and myocardial infarction in specific populations. I plan on continuing this course of genetic and medical research, either through labs at this university or continue at the Cleveland Clinic.

Academic Enrichment: Attending study hours, approaching professors one-on-one, and organizing study groups are all important and useful methods of creating a successful academic experience. However, in the midst of all the prerequisite, general education, and required courses, it’s easy to forget to pursue topics of one’s own interest. I will take advantage of the openness of my schedule during certain semesters to broaden my education towards areas of interest outside of my major, such as astrophysics, history, and music.

Leadership Development: As an active member of multiple clubs, as well as co-concertmaster of the Buckeye Philharmonic, I hope to make a noticeable difference in the experiences of those working around me. Gaining leadership positions are important, and what experience I help create is even more important.

Service Engagement: During my time as a student at the Ohio State University, it is important to also be a member of the community. Contributing to the community in the form of volunteer and service work is a responsibility of a member of the community. Through community outreach programs, I hope to make a difference in the lives of children, and maybe influence a couple of them to chase their dreams and make a positive impact on the world. Conversely, I would love to involve myself in service outside the U.S., volunteering abroad through programs such as Cross-Cultural Solutions.
