There are many different types of communities that account with the making of the snowboard. The main types of communities are businesses, workers, and the general public.
Businesses
There are over 100 businesses that sell/promote snowboards. These businesses are the ones that help sales jump by making promo videos to sell their products.
The main company that is well known all around the world is Burton. Burton has been around since the beginning of snowboarding and it revolutionized snowboarding to where it is now. Burton started sponsoring many athletes which brought the name out for this company. The more these sponsored athletes won medals and awards, the more people noticed Burton. It’s almost impossible to go to a resort without seeing groups of people wearing Burton since it is such a well known company.
Workers
There are two three main types of workers in the community aspect. There are factory workers, designers, and the athletes. The factory workers play the most important role out of all the other workers. The factory workers are the ones that put the little parts together to make the snowboard we ride today. Without the factory workers there would be no need for the other types of workers. The designers are my personal favorite even though they are not the back bone to the company. The designers are the ones that come up with the ideas and how it will work. They have to talk to a factory working specialist to find out how everything is made and if it is possible to make it under the specific circumstances. The last group are not always seen as workers, but what they do is a skillful type of work only a few people can perform. The athletes are the ones who started off having fun with the product, then get, so good that they get sponsored. After these workers get sponsored it is a constant battle between the person next to him.
General Public
The general public may not seem as important since they aren’t making anything in person, but they are the ones that help the spread of the products. Without the general public’s help there would be no advancements on the sport of snowboarding. Without the first group of the general public wanting to try the Snurfer. The snowboard would have never been created.
The general public play a very important role that is very simple. Spread the word. The more people started to notice that these boards were the new “thing” to do, the more the sales went up. This eventually led to snowboard making rivalries which went on for years. The main clash that many people knew about was Burton Snowboards since they got questioned whether they were the ones that started the snowboard. This debate became irrelevant ever since Burton became a big time company and shut down the other company.
The community process in the commodity chain is heavily impacting the social aspect. The snowboard is either a hit or miss based on the consumers wants. Without a positive reaction from the consumers there is no point in going to the design portion of the commodity chain.
