I am Associate Professor of Korean in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at The Ohio State University. Before coming to OSU, I taught courses on contemporary Korean society and culture at Lewis & Clark College, Ewha Womans University in Korea, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
My research and teaching cover a wide range of topics related to modern Korea, including popular music, cinema, urban culture, and social polarization. I am the author of Polarizing Dreams: Gangnam and Popular Culture in Globalizing Korea (University of Hawai’i Press) due out in late 2024. My next book project is on the trans-Pacific cultural impact of Black freedom movements on modern Korean history.
