The two main purposes for the app is to get the most recent scores and course information for golf tournaments and connect personally with a specific LPGA golfer by looking at their biography, statistics and twitter. This app also advocates the growth and popularity of the game of golf by providing a quick and easy way to follow the players and tournaments.
How does it help the user?
LPGA NOW allows anyone to have free, quick and condensed information on their favorite golfer, upcoming tournaments and other LPGA news. From avid golf fan to a newly interested fan, this app can be used by many. For example, if a tournament is going on and one cannot watch it on TV, they can open up this app and quickly get the scoreboard, tee times, and course information with a few taps. Or if the user wants to keep track of their favorite players throughout the season, they can effortlessly group their favorites together and follow them throughout their career.
How do you use it?
This app has a very simple and contemporary look, which allows users to easy navigate through the main menu sidebar. When it opens up, one can immediately see the most recent tournament scores and course information. Than, the user can go through each category on the menu bar : Scores, News & Video, Tournaments, Stats, Rankings, Platers & Favorites, Social, and Settings. The options most used are tournaments, and player’s information. This app provides the tournament schedule for the season and keeps stats from previous tournaments so users can look back if they missed it. Also, this app provides many ways to interact with specific LPGA Tour players. The app offers a search bar to find a certain player, look at their biography, tournament winnings, golf stats, video, news, and Twitter feed.
Why is it significant?
LPGA NOW has many significant features. First and most notably, is their new Twitter feature to try and connect the public personally with the LPGA Tour players. This is huge as the game of golf as a whole is trying to grow and relate more to younger generations. Also, packed in this app is an abundance of statistics that many experienced and avid golfers are drawn to look at. From driving accuracy, putting average, GIR etc, users can compare and gain a deeper relationship with the players. Being able to have the latest updates for current tournaments and developing a deeper connection with the tour players is essential to growing a bigger fan base.
What do you think of its potential?
This app is a big step up from previous versions. The ability to see LPGA Tour player’s personal Twitter accounts and add favorite players is a great addition. This application could go further and more opportunities to interact with the players through social media. In addition, this is a very easy app to navigate through and you don’t have to be a advanced golfer to understand some of the stats. However, one does have to have a greater knowledge of golf to comprehend some of the stats (GIR, sand saves, driving accuracy). Another negative, is the photos under the media category didn’t work for me when I tried to view the images. Overall, this app is a fantastic database that users can view as much or as little information as they want to.
