Lunar New Year Lantern Making

January 23, 2020 7 – 8pm

Social Event

This event took place in the Smith side basement of Smith-Steeb Hall. I did not know what to expect when I decided to attend this event, but I had a lot of fun!

First, we were told to pick two different colors of construction paper. I picked purple and orange. Next, we had to cut one of our papers, so that we could roll it into a small tube and glue it together. Then, we needed to fold the other paper and cut lines that did not go all the way to the end. Finally, we glued they cut paper on to the tube. This created a lantern look. We also had the option of adding string to our lantern. So, I did. I chose three different colors, purple, orange and light blue. Then, I braided the string together. My friend, Sydney, had to help me punch holes into my tube, so that I could attach the braided string to my lantern.

I had a lot of fun at this event. I got to talk to people that I haven’t seen in a long time. I was also able to celebrate Chinese New Year, which was really cool. This event related to International Affairs because a lot of countries celebrate Chinese New Year and so it was nice that we could do something to celebrate, as well.
