My first year of college was definitely a learning experience. Everyone I knew kept telling me that college was not high school and that it wouldn’t be as easy as high school, so I thought I was prepared but I wasn’t. My expectations of college being harder that high school proved to be true. Although I felt prepared, I still wasn’t expecting the amount of content learned at a time and how all of it would be on the exam. The amount of information on the exams was probably the biggest change for me. I learned that cramming for a cumulative exam the night before, or even the weekend before, was not going to cut it here. I think I grew in the way that now I know that I can’t just always have fun and expect to get good grades, but also I learned that I can’t spend all my free time studying, and finding the balance is something I’m still trying to figure out. My main goal for my second year is to find the balance between work and fun, and for HSS, I hope to have time to get more involved.
