Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness:

Understanding the world beyond where you live is important to gain knowledge about different cultures and ideas. Taking different courses such as classical mythology will help to grow my knowledge about the world. I would also like to travel abroad because living in a different country will really deepen your sense of the world and learn about the country on a more personal level. I am a part of the Muslim Student Association and meet different Muslims from around the world, joining organizations will allow you to meet people from all over the world.

Original Inquiry:

To be involved in research is a great way to apply the classroom in real life and that is what I hope to achieve. To reach this goal I am exploring different topics that I would be interested in and want to join in for research. In the future I would like to get funded and research my own question. This will be the ultimate way to apply everything that you learned in class and in research.

Academic Enrichment:

To be a successful student, I plan to take advantage of different resources in the classroom. If there any problems I go to office hours, either my professor’s or my TA’s. I also discuss with my peers because teaching something to your classmate really helps to understand the content even deeper. Also, taking more rigorous classes like honors and upper level classes will make me work harder and build my skills in the classroom.

Leadership Development:

To develop my leadership skills, I could get more involved in organizations and community projects, and possibly lead my own. A job as a tutor or a TA will help to develop my leadership skills further because it will build on my communication and teaching skills. Volunteering at the hospital will also enhance my leadership, the more experiences in the real world will make me gain knowledge on how real supervisors and bosses lead.

Service Engagement:

Service is an important way to appreciate and help the community. There are many opportunities on campus to give back like volunteering at the Wexner Medical Center. Also, there are different events at the Keith B. Key Center for Student Leadership and Service at the Union that will help me get more involved. There are many organizations that also give back and next year I plan to join Circle K which does a lot of service work for the community.
