Year in Review

So far, my academic and career goals have been focused on going to law school and being able to serve my community. I am glad to have this opportunity to reflect on these goals and decide what my next steps should be.

To develop my global awareness, I have joined clubs and met people who are from many places around the U.S. and the world. Specifically, I joined Undergraduate Student Government, and I have met so many new people through that. I have also taken classes that have taught me more about other cultures and histories that I did not have a lot of previous knowledge about. I have become more aware of global interdependency and cultural differences.

I have improved my understanding of research and creative processes by taking a wide range of courses for my general education requirements and major courses. As a psychology major, I have taken many courses that were centered around the scientific process and scientific inquiry. In my general education curriculum, I have taken history courses, an art course, and literary courses. These have all taught me about the importance of creativity, and I have learned that there are many approaches to art and culture.

My Honors Contract has helped me dedicate my academic career to a rigorous course load. Because my longterm academic goal is to attend law school, I want to challenge myself now in preparation, and this is part of the reason why I chose to double major in psychology and economics. I chose my general education courses because I felt that they would improve my reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, all of which will be important to my future career as an attorney.

Right now, I am involved in Undergraduate Student Government, Phi Alpha Delta, and Ohio Innocence Project-U. These extracurriculars have taught me how to interact with other people in a way that makes me an effective leader. I have learned how to cooperate and collaborate to solve problems within the university and the larger community, and this will be essential to my work as an attorney. They also help me feel more connected to my community, which is one of my personal goals.

Undergraduate Student Government is the main service-oriented activity that I am currently involved in. USG has helped me serve my community by giving me the opportunity to identify and solve problems within the university. I am involved in the Governmental Relations subcommittee, which has helped me become more involved with local and state governments. I have had the opportunity to connect other students with governmental processes, which I believe empowers all of us as a university. In the future, I hope to do more volunteer work within the larger Columbus community.
