Culture/Language Course

Class Description

For my culture and language course, I enrolled in a second education abroad program. The Ghana: ATI Arts and Service Learning program incorporates the humanities, performing arts, sociology, and educating for sustainable development. The four-week program also allows students to partake in their own community development and service learning research projects. The program’s pre-departure class enlightens students on what to expect while in Ghana and lays the groundwork for students to learn drumming, dancing, and the Ewe language.

Class Reflection

The Ghana: ATI Arts and Service Learning pre-departure class has been extremely beneficial thus far. Each week, a different student participant presents on topics that we will encounter in Ghana ranging from Chieftaincy to Kente cloth to Religion. In addition, students practice drumming and dancing, as well as study the basics of Ewe language. Through the Ghana pre-departure class, I feel more comfortable and confident of my abilities before traveling to Ghana in May.
