Final ISR Draft

This formal lab report is the result of a full year of hard work while interning at the Byrd Cancer Research Lab on Ohio State’s Medical Campus my senior year. It is the culmination of my high school Biology path that lead me to cancer research, my hopeful career path. I had not thought of oncology as my future until after getting through all of the results and realizing how important the work was.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: I have always wanted to travel to Italy and Greece. The Mediterranean cultures have always fascinated me. I am travelling to Corfu, Greece in May to spend a month studying Greek history.

Original Inquiry: Research into treatments and hopefully, cures, of terminal illnesses is one of the most important fields of work in our world. I would like to conduct an original project into how external factors like diet can affect a person’s susceptibility to having cancer.

Academic Enrichment: As a Molecular Genetics major, I have a rigorous course load and plan on taking many electives in the future that will challenge the way I think.

Leadership Development: I am committed to being a leader on campus. First and foremost, I am in Mount Leadership Society Scholars group, an organization that attempts to help members develop their best leadership style through self-introspection and service projects. I have also joined Undergraduate Student Government in the hopes of working up to a position where my leadership can have an influence on the campus community.

Service Engagement: Mount Leadership Society Scholars is a group that is committed to a wide range of service opportunities in and around the Columbus area. I have also joined Buckeyethon because in my mind, there are few causes more worthy of fundraising than pediatric cancer. I am a part of Delta Sigma Phi, where I do volunteer work for the American Red Cross.
