Global Awareness:
The primary way I have developed my global awareness is through joining an Indian dance student organization on campus: Raas in the 614. Through this organization, I have learned more about my own Indian culture and heritage, while also celebrating the diversity that exists in this world. The other way I have developed global awareness is through my service work. I have met and engaged with many people of many different backgrounds and cultures who have shown me the unique difference present around the world. I plan to further develop my global awareness by taking coursework in the global studies category and directly engaging with different cultures through travel.
Original Inquiry:
During the first half of my undergraduate studies, I assisted in a bioengineering research lab, working on a spine research project. Through this experience, I have learned about the overall research process and developed my critical thinking skills. I will continue to work towards original inquiry goals by continuing to assist in a research lab.
Academic Enrichment:
My Honors Contract demonstrates a commitment to academic enrichment by including a diverse set of courses that will allow me to explore various educational dimensions and have a more well-rounded course of study. I chose the Neuroscience major as I aspire to become a physician. I felt that this major would allow me to expand my scientific knowledge in a field directly relevant to future medical study. I chose the Economics major as I was interested by the field and wanted to engage in study that is less relevant to medicine. However, economics is a major part of the world and is highly prevalent in the healthcare industry, making it useful to know. My GE course selections demonstrate a commitment to excellence by allowing me to become more educated in broader areas of study that I would not be as exposed to when focusing on the study of medicine.
Leadership Development:
This past year, I was highly involved with a few student organizations: Neuroscience Ambassadors, Mirrors Sophomore Honorary, and Raas in the 614. Within all of these organizations, I have pursued leadership positions as best as possible in order to develop my own leadership skills. Although these organizations are not directly relevant to my career goal of a career in medicine, I believe they have been useful experiences to engage in activities that I am passionate about, while developing the crucial leadership skills every physician needs.
Service Engagement:
I have volunteered at various locations through my undergraduate career thus far. I have volunteered at a NNEMAP Food Pantry, the Wexner Medical Center, the Student Wellness Center, and at the Cherry Street Mission among other experiences. All of these experiences have allowed me to give back to my community while simultaneously growing as a person. I hope to continue serving my community as a physician, and also through various charitable organizations and programs.
