Avoiding Procrastination: Key Strategies

Avoiding procrastination was always one of the hardest things for me to do especially in online work. Voge (2007) talks about various ways to avoid and overcome procrastination in general. Voge (2007) boils down the steps into Awareness, Time Management Techniques, Motivation, and Staying Motivated.

  • Awareness: This as realizing you have a problem. This is when you figure out why you are procrastinating and what habits are making you do so.
  • Time Management Techniques: Managing time is best done by reducing anxiety and stress and rewarding yourself at goals.
  • Motivation: Find the best reason that you possibly can to do the thing you need to. Find the driving force the pushes you forward. Try to stay do things you are interested in to avoid boredom.
  • Staying Motivated: Ask yourself what you need to do to stay on track. Do these things in preparation to ensure success.

My biggest takeaways from ESL

Hi, this is a post about what I have learned this semester and my biggest takeaways in my ESL class so far. I will keep updating it every week as I continue.

  • Technology is a double-edged sword when it comes to online learning if you do not know how to properly use the resources. Learning how to search for scholarly articles and navigate Google were both things I picked up this semester.
  • Staying motivated goes hand in hand with being on a good schedule. Staying organized goes hand in hand with having a good schedule. Small things can turn to big things if not taken care of early enough.
  • If you don’t know, ask for help. In my Design courses this semester I have had to reach out multiple times to my professor in order to make sure I am following the criteria and making expectations. There is help available and good resources here you just have to find them.

Technology that has helped me in class

I use multiple different websites and tools when it comes to learning online at at a distance. My MacBook Pro is the best example of physical technology that I use on a daily basis. I also have a Wacom tablet that works with Photoshop for any design class work I may have to do. (The tablet allows you to draw directly digitally and saves having to scan from paper.)

Websites and Apps that I have found useful for online academic success:

  • Trello
  • Quizlet
  • Google Calendar
  • Canvas App
  • Google Drive
