Trademark’s presentation

Something that I really liked and got me thinking during TradeMark’s presentation is Marcel Duchamps’ Fountain. It made me wonder where the limit is between artistic creation and duplication. Why is a signed urinal in an art exhibition considered a piece of art? Is the signature that is the creation or is it having a signed urinal? Or perhaps is it havingĀ  a urinal at an art expo that makes it original? Then also comes the question of ownership, who is he creator of this piece? The signer (it’s his signature)? The manufacturer (well, they made it)? The creator of urinals (they came up with the idea of urinals)? The expo organizer (for deciding that this was indeed a piece of art)?

The presentation yesterday also thought me how copyright is a way to protect your rights as a creator but also freely use other people creation by accrediting them for their work.
