Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

One of my H&S goals is to engage in community service (service engagement) in areas other than engineering. As a business minor, I am also interested the financial stability and the overall goal of achieving an efficient economy as well as a poverty free country. One organization I have found and will continue to participate in is a club called Money think. This organization travels to high schools in the greater Columbus Ohio area and teaches financial literacy to underprivileged high schools that may be not be attending college, and need to achieve financial stability to live on their own when they move out of their current home. I feel this club helps me achieve my H&S goal because I am helping kids my age become more financially stable so they have an easier adjustment to the “real world”

A second goal of mine here at OSU is to participate in undergraduate research. I believe that origonal inquiry is a huge source of learning to engage in a project with a professor that you have connected with and build a network of resources and mentors. My ENGR 1181 instructor Christopher Ratcliff has done some amazing research on solar cells and their ability to one day because a network for the roads and highways that we drive on. I plan to engage in some further discussion with my professors, as well as Dr. Ratcliff, about their groundbreaking research and one day earn a spot beside them on the team.  solar-cell-image

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. This power point presentation is about working toward a more environmentally sound space travel. Based on the current methods, each space launch emits various harmful chemicals into the environmentally that contribute to the greenhouse affect. Alternative methods such as reusable space boosters or the concept of a space elevator would eliminate many of these pollutants, and overall contribute to a more clean environment. These alternate methods are essential because if the pollutants keep flowing into the earths atmosphere, soon NASA will be launching missions to look for a new planet.

About Me

Hello! My name is Noah Kaplan and I am an Aerospace Engineering Major from Beverly, Massachusetts. Here at OSU, I live in the  Torres House apart of the Green Engineering Schollars group (GES). Within this program we become involved in eco-friendly community service to better our world and the surrounding Columbus community. I am looking forward to becoming involved in greek life, intramural sports and engineering group projects. I know that getting involved around campus will aid me in building my path to success as a college student. My favorite activities to do are discover new music, play pickup sports with my friends, ski, and go to my crossfit gym in Massachusetts. As for career goals, I aspire to graduate with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, attend graduate school, achieve and Ph.D. in Orbital Mechanics and Flight Design, then go onto work for private or government aerospace companies such as SpaceX or Nasa.
