Year in Review

This past semester I have grown as a student. I have learned to procrastinate, and work on assignments ahead of time instead of waiting to the last day. This was a learning process because at the beginning of the year I waited until the day before to do my lab report. I ended of staying up almost all night to finish it. I most likely would have done better grade wise if I didn’t wait untill the day before.  After that I never waited to the last minute. I have grown as a person because living on my own has taught me to be more independent. I have been able to form more solid opinions and morals.

My goals have evolved as I have grown up, but as I became older my goal has always focused on a career in the medical field. My long term goal is to get accepted into med school and become an obstetrician. I joined the Biological Sciences group because it gave me the opportunity to be in a tight knit community that had similar aspirations to me.

The values I have obtained through my religion and parents has formed my foundation of my goals. Sikhism preaches helping others and giving back through time, money, and physical energy. Through my career I want to be able to dedicate my time and energy towards helping others. My parents influenced my value of working hard in order to achieve my goals.

In the past I have volunteered at my local hospital. I was bale to observe nursing and pharmacy as a volunteer. Through this experience I was able to assist pharmacists and nurses in their vigorous day to day job. At Ohio State I plan on volunteering at the James Cancer Research hospital and the Children’s Hospital. These places will also give me the opportunity to become more aware the environment I plan to pursue in a career in while giving back to the community.

My senior year of high school, I was given the opportunity to travel to Belize to learn more about the culture and lifestyle. During tours I was educated of the rich ancient history, and I was bale to appreciate the nature of the forests and caves. My favorite and most memorable part of the experience was going to a local school; it was interesting to see how different schools run in other countries. It was also interesting to see how technology independent the children are compared to the United States. I plan participate in global awareness at Ohio State through volunteering abroad with clubs like medlife. I also have joined the Indian American Association This club helps me stay aware the culture I come from, while learning about other Indian cultures.

In high school I was given the leadership opportunity to be my club team volleyball captain my freshman year, and the co captain of the varsity volleyball team my senior year. This leadership opportunity taught me how much a team’s effort is motivated by the captain. It also taught me how important communication was to keep a good relationship with my teammates. I was also the treasurer of the St.Jude Club and Best Buddies. These positions taught me the importance of each small part in an organization. I plan to become a leader on my campus by actively participating in a club. I later would like to apply to become a leader in the group I am most passionate for.

Final Deca Manual-10dsdhn

In order to compete in DECA’s competition, I was required to make a manual for a business plan in my category of hospitality and tourism. In this project, I had to take a existing business , find a problem, and create a plan to solve the problem using the “SOLOMO” theme. Through this competition, I learned how to effectively communicate my purpose to my audience, and work with team mates. Having to communicate my project to the judges taught me the importance of a first impression and business confidence. This project also taught me how to take aspects from different subjects like english, statistics, and marketing and incorporate it into a piece of work.

About Me

My name is Jindpreet Kandola, and I’m from Memphis, Tennessee. I am a freshman at The Ohio State University studying biology on a Pre-med track. With the many opportunities for research and internships, diversity of people and cultures, and strong school pride it was almost impossible to say no to Ohio State. I decided to be in Biological Sciences Scholars to surround myself to a tight knit community that shares similar passions and goals.

My goal has always been to be some type of a doctor. When I was little kid, I used to play doctor with my dad, and tend to his fake wounds with Neosporin and band-aids. My junior year of high school, I wanted to know for sure if my passion for medicine was real. I decided to go to the Georgetown Medical Institute where I observed cadavers and practiced medical techniques on dummies. I also shadowed a local neurologist who gave me an insight to how it is like to run a private clinic. All these experiences led to my decision to be on the pre-med track at Ohio State.
