Elizabeth Kairis is from Pittsburgh, PA and is very excited to start her first year at OSU! Ohio State University provides many educational opportunities and extracurricular activities that she is eager to experience. Although she will start her year in the exploration program, she has an interest in pursuing a pre-med track, becoming a genetic counselor, or in studying math and science related majors. She hopes to find work in labs where she can further explore these interests in a hands-on way. Throughout high school, Elizabeth participated in various activities. She played piano and cello in Golden Strolling Strings, a group that plays music for several events. In addition, she participated in Ski Club and Cross Country — although she slowly began to learn that running 5Ks was not something that she found particularly easy or enjoyable. Although she did not participate in a team sport, she enjoys playing intramural sports and staying active. Some of her most enjoyable experiences, however, were in Key Club and National Honors Society, two groups that strive to improve communities through volunteer work. Also, Elizabeth’s enthusiasm to explore different opportunities and learn about other cultures attracted her to OSU. Elizabeth’s fascination with different cultures started a few years ago when she had the opportunity to stay with a family in Toulouse, France for nine days. After this experience, she hopes to continue her studies in foreign languages as a potential minor. Although the first year of college can be nerve-wracking, Elizabeth is looking forward to encountering new people, experiences, and education.
