Module 7 Maintaining Motivation Blog Post

The most useful thing I learned in this module is that motivation comes from intrinsic and extrinsic sources. Depending on how we are motivated to behave, our success depends on why we are motivated to certain things. For example, if we are intrinsically motivated, we are interested in learning new things or we are interested in that sense of pride upon accomplishing that task. On the other hand, if we are extrinsically motivated, we are only doing it for the reward or to avoid punishment. This to me implies, how I behave in all aspects of life. If I am doing a thing for rewards or to avoid punishment, then I am not completely doing it or completely motivated to do things. In the same sense, if I am intrinsically motivated to do things, I am doing it too because of interest. I also learned the importance of motivation, meditation, and sleep. They all affect how I perform in college and imbalance in any of those could have a huge impact on my health and academics.

I have implemented taking good breaks between work sessions to refresh my mind. I have also started to meditate, which is something I thought I would never be able to do. I also added white noise in the background to block distracting noise, so I can work better.

I need to exercise more, once this pandemic is over because I learned in this module how exercise can play a huge role in your mental, emotional and physical health. I will try to work out at home whenever possible and also try to create a habit of exercising.

To the student, I would advise them to take good care of their mental, physical and emotional health because it can change how you learn and focus in college. It’s hard to manage everything in college as a student and that is ok. There are many resources one can find in college and they should utilize them as much as possible. Remember how you choose to spend your time will reflect who you are and in order for you to grow into whatever you decide to, you need to work for it. Grades, in general, do not reflect who you are as a person as long as you are learning and exploring all your options.

Module 4 Web-Enhanced Reading and Study Strategies

The most useful thing I learned in this module is how the Information Processing Model works and how our memory operates. Our sensory memory is the thing where we are getting bombarded with everything around us. At this stage, we are capable of remembering everything for a very short period of time. After we have paid attention to them, the information goes to the working memory where we are capable of remembering anywhere from 5 to 9 items for about 20 seconds. This consolidation of information can lead to a long-term memory, where we are capable of remembering it for the rest of our lives. However, one must always review them overtime to keep them there. This is where Distributed practice comes into play. Distributed practice when you take the time to learn about the thing and practice it over time. It is not enough to just learn it once and say you are an expert in that thing. By reviewing it and testing one understating over a course of time allows for the information to stay fresh in the mind for a long time. For example, learning about the heart in a lecture, the student should review their notes when they are studying and create a question that challenges their understanding of that topic. Afterward, reviewing those materials couple of times over the course of a week or two before the exam can help the student consolidate that information and improve their memory. As students study, using the assignment calculator could improve how effective they are at learning materials and working productively. Moving forward I want to include using the assignment calculator so that I can be more effective on how I study or get my things done. The assignment calculator provided by the University of Minnesota is a great website that allows the user to break their big task in a manageable size. This will prevent me from procrastinating and help me stay focus without feeling overwhelmed by the size of the task. Using the provided information, the advice I would give students would be to break your work down to manageable size. Work and take a break when you need to because your brain performs best when it is not burned-out. Also, don’t try to cram everything before the day of the exam. Lastly, Learn to Meditate or get better sleep because your brain is also a muscle and it works best when it’s well-rested.

Efficiency in the Digital Age Blog Post

The most useful thing I learned from this module was how to manage time and how done correctly can leave you with more time then when you don’t. By doing important things first you create more time to spend it how you want to. One of the things I also realized after tracking my time in that other assignment was how much lack of sleep I was getting. In addition to how it was affecting me on how much work I get done and how focused I am while doing those work.

From this module, I have started tracking my time and setting an hourly timer so that every hour I get a reminder on what I am doing. This also helps me track time because every hour when the alarm goes off, I get a reminder to write what I am doing on my calendar and what I’m supposed to be doing. In addition, I also learned about technique like Pomodoro and the 10 min technique, which creates a smooth transition from getting started to be working productively, I have started to utilize them more in the past week.

One key idea from this module I need to put into practice in the future and as soon as possible is, creating a block schedule for my to-do list. I have to start this soon if I want to do well in my online classes and I will try to practice this by using google tasks. Setting aside some time to write down all of the tasks and putting them on Sunday allowed me to get things done. Throughout the week that app send me a notification on what I have to get things done and it allowed me to be somewhat productive. I want to improve on this and build my skill of self-discipline and productivity as I move forward in life.

The advice I would like to give students based on what I have learned and experienced during this module is you need to start now. Time management is a skill that requires a lot of practice and the earlier you start the more experience you can build and more successful you will be. Avoid procrastinating and get things done ahead of time. It’s easier said than done but you can’t climb a mountain on the first try so start early and build the habit of sticking with your schedule.

First Blog Module 2

One of the most important things that I learned from this module was internet etiquette or netiquette. Communicating on the internet can be a difficult task, which can have a negative impact on your future because every time you post something on the internet you are leaving a digital footprint that can harm your reputation. Being respectful and clear in your conversation by avoiding sarcasm, satire and other forms of informal conversation are crucial in order to have a proper conversation. Also, avoid capitalizing your words which can be associated as being angry. By doing this you put yourself at a lesser risk of being hunted by your past in the future. In recent years, many politicians and celebrities were in the news for things and post that they made in their past and it negatively affected them. As students, we will soon be going into the workforce and making sure our social media conversation and post are etiquette will play a vital role in our job acceptance rate.

In addition, as we get older, we should always double-check our text to make sure our sentence is grammatically correct and are concise. I struggle with this every day because my writing can’t keep up with my thoughts and my paragraph is usually fragmented, which needs revision. I’ve been trying to implement the 30-minute rule where I write something and distract myself for 30 minutes and go back and reading it to make sure it is correct. moving forward I also plan to add the footnote with “thank you” and my name since it shows sincerity. Not being able to communicate face to face with the added difficultly of miscommunication can create a negative impression in this digital age and we should all try our best to avoid making those mistakes.

I hope everyone has a wonderful spring break. Have fun and be safe.

Sincerely,

Khagen Kadariya
