Tools to help organize a group

One of they keys to success when it comes to any group activity is without a doubt communication. Being able to talk to your colleagues about the task at hand makes it infinitely easier, and luckily our electronic age has given us the tools to communicate quickly and efficiently. Firstly, Email is a great and practical resource for reaching out and contacting anyone, whether it be your group members or anyone else for that matter. Carmen/canvas also allows us to contact our fellow students and instructors via the homepage, thus eliminating the need to know someones exact email to contact them. As long as they are in one of your classes, you’ll be able to contact that individual.

Organizing a meeting time can also be difficult, especially when everyone has other responsibilities outside of the task at hand. A great tool to help figure out when everyone is free is Doodle. This allows you to express a range of times and everyone with access to the poll can enter in a period of time that beset fits their. This makes organizing meetings or work sessions a breeze.

Finally, working online can be difficult, as you’re far from your co-workers and it can be difficult to coordinate objectives. This is where communication is key. However, another great resource is the ability to see what the other is working on via google docs. Google Docs allows individuals to work together on a paper/powerpoint/slideshow in real time, and as such easily allows for coordination of tasks and objectives. I’ve used Google docs many times in group settings and highly recommend it.
