Artifact: My first pair of real lab goggles

Experience: General Chemistry Lab for autumn 2017 semester

This artifact represents my first taste of science in college. I have always wanted to go into medicine, I grew up in a family of doctors so medicine seemed to always be my path. I new this would be tough but I am up for the challenge. This artifact is a reminder of why I chose science. I have never been the best at conventional testing, I have always been someone who does best under real life application. Lab allows me to apply what I have learned in a new and exciting way. I can’t say I am always excited for lab but I always understand content so much better after. I feel like I’m right where I am supposed to be with regards to my future.

From my experienced in lab I have learned not to give up on myself. There have been many times over this past semester where I have questioned if I belong in science and if a science major is the right place for me. When I go to lab I am reminded about what I love about science and why it is so fascinating to me. In some ways going to lab, quickly changing into sweatpants in the bathroom right before and putting on lab goggles inspires me to keep going on this science path.

In the future I will remember my first pair of lab goggles. I will remember my first time in a real chemistry lab. It wills serve as a reminder to keep moving forward and pursuing my dreams no matter how challenging my studies get.
