‘Ike Kapoho Project- Archaeology Workday Opportunity

Archaeology Workday Opportunity: Research and Restoration of Kapoho Fishpond, Waiheʻe Maui.

June 1 and 15th, 2024

  • Please join the Hawaiʻi Land Trust at the Waiheʻe Coastal Dunes & Wetlands Refuge for two community workdays dedicated to archaeological research and restoration of Kapoho, a Loko Iʻa Kalo.

  • Participants should arrive at 9 am and plan on 3 hours of work that will include training in recording archaeological features and excavation. Please wear appropriate clothing for sun, durable shoes and gloves. Please bring water; a meal will be provided.
  • Sign language interpretation will be available for the deaf and hard of hearing community.
  • Access to site: pass through unlocked main gate and turn left through second gate. Travel down long straight road and at the end park by house with sink and porta potty. Meeting will be by the ahu.
