Learning about global impacts in my engineering education is extremely important because not only does it help increase efficiency for any project you’re doing, it also allows us to see any harmful or long term impacts on things such as the environment or the economy. Here are some non-engineering courses I’ve taken that have connections to engineering.
- EEOB 3410 – Ecology
Global Warming can be minimized or stopped by an engineering solution. An engineering solution could make a huge impact on global warming because it would not only help protect the environment but also protect humans in the long term from the negative effects of global warming.
- AEDECON 4310 – Environmental & Natural Resource Economics
Minimizing pollution can be achieved by an engineering solution. This engineering solution could have a global impact because we have the ability to lower pollution significantly, however it is difficult to convince governments that minimizing pollution can be economically beneficial.
- POLISCI 2150 – Voters and Elections
An engineering solution can potentially impact how people choose their politicians to run their country. People would more likely vote for politicians that would increase funding towards scientific research if it could lead to say a cure of cancer. More directly, an engineer could create better voting technology to ensure the integrity of our elections.
