Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Career

The first artifact is a picture of a floor to ceiling white board in my dorm that I filled entirely with information for my first Psychology 3313 midterm. I was so stressed out about it and so nervous, but I ended up getting an A on it! It was then that I realized that I can do anything that I work hard for and put my mind to. I took a picture of the white board and saved it to my phone because I was so proud of all of the studying that I had done, since it had taken me a few hours overall. I still remember nearly all of that information from the very first midterm. I also realized that this is a great way to study, but it does take up a lot of time. I’m still working on the timing of things, so as to keep my stress levels lower. Currently my timing is really off, where I spend nearly 80% of every day focused on school. I’m working to find more time for myself and my mental health. The next is a picture of the bust of Thompson in the Thompson library. The library is my getaway and it makes me feel so much better to go there and relax and study in my free time. Lastly, it is a picture of my cousin and my brother, who are my lifelines here at OSU. My cousin graduated from here, and my brother is currently attending OSU.

About Me

Hello!
My name is Paige Jordan and I am a first year student hoping to major in Neuroscience and Pre-Med. I come from a small town about an hour and a half away from here, where my graduating class was only 143 students. I grew up with a very personal connection to every single one of my teachers, and I value this greatly. During high school I mainly focused on furthering my education because my goal was to graduate with honors- and I did. Even so, I did participate in Whippet Theater as well throughout my high school career; I am quite passionate about singing. My favorite class is either French (languages come naturally to me and I would love to try and have a conversation in French with someone, although my French is a bit rusty) or Pre-Calculus.
The summer before my Senior year of high school was when I decided that I wanted to major in Neuroscience. My grandmother had two strokes and was transferred to Riverside Methodist each time, and it sparked my interest and passion in learning more about the brain. I want to be able to spend my life doing something that I love, and I believe that this will be it.
My own personal struggle with depression and anxiety also flare my interest in this major. I have struggled with this for almost four years of my life, and it does not get any easier. Nonetheless, I have realized that it helps keep me motivated because I know that it will get better. I hope to get into a lab that is conducting research on these two mental illnesses.
This first semester of my Freshman year I am taking my core classes for my pre-majors. This consists of Intro to Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience, Biology, Chemistry, the Health Sciences Seminar, and the Freshman Survey class. It is seventeen credit hours worth of classes, but I know it will be worth it in the end. Second semester I am looking forward to getting a job and looking into research labs in my major. Further into the future, I aspire to become a neurosurgeon.
