My First Week at OSU

My First week at The Ohio State University went well! My first impression of Ohio state was that it was too large to accommodate for every student, but turns out there are so many smaller communities around campus that the large student body becomes more and more intimate within each group. I expected to be lost among the amount of students, but my professors have all done a great job of making the classes feel more personable. Welcome week was full of activities like the student involvement fair, Buckeyethon, and the Buckeye Bash. Although those were all hectic, they really showed the freshman (myself included) just how great their first year on campus could be if they out themselves out there.

Adjusting has not been as difficult as I once believed because of the people I am surrounded with in Art Scholars and my Design classes. If I would have come to Ohio State with no support system behind me, it may have been a different story. I know me being away from home is harder for my mother than it is for me, but it is something I think of from time to time. The comfort of being surrounded with my family and friends was all I knew, then I packed up and moved off to college! However, I could not be more grateful for this opportunity I have been given, even if it may be alien to what I have known my entire life.

Artifacts

The project that inspired me was the marble art in the Werner Center of Fine Arts, by Maya Lin. I learned about it when we traveled to the Fine Arts center during an Art Scholars Seminar. What inspired me about the piece was how each individual marble is placed together to create something greater, something that weaves and stretches across an entire room. I will use marker to recreate my own take on Lin’s marble piece. This piece will be a dripping effect off of a hard corner done on paper. I am a visual artist, and that is the only way I know how to create an inspired piece, through my art.

End of the Semester Evaluations:

Now that the end of the semester is coming to a close, I feel as if the fears I had at the beginning of the year seem less significant now, like getting good grades and managing my time. I learned that although getting good grades is important, the education I am receiving is most important, and if I manage my time well I can finish all the work I need done. Art Scholars so far has been so much fun and I have met many amazing people and I can’t wait for next semester. I’m not sure how much extra time I will have to be in Art scholars next year, but I look forward to figuring out what I can do!  I ended off my first semester having learned a lot from my classes and my art scholars

About Me

I’m Aidyn Jones!

My intended major is in interior design; I think my love for Design came from my HGTV addiction as a child. I hope to one day become an interior designer (or have my own tv show on HGTV.)

I am an outgoing person with the love of the outdoors and dogs! I have two dogs of my own, a golden doodle named Vincenzo and a bernedoodle named Salvatore. I have always been very involved in school and I intend to keep it that way! My goal for the year is to get through my classes successfully!
