Year in Review

My first two years of college have been busy, especially with the dramatic end to Spring 2020 with the onset of COVID-19. Regardless, I have had many opportunities to grow in college so far. I have started taking Korean language courses, which has given me insight into another culture. My introduction to Korean satisfies the Global Awareness aspect of the Honors G.O.A.L.S. I participated in small mammal dissection and preservation as part of animal science research. Although that has since halted due to the pandemic, I was exposed to Original Inquiry through that research lab, and I hope to continue when the pandemic resides. My rigorous biology pre-health curriculum has prepared me well in my long-term goal to become a physician, and serves as my Academic Enrichment. I have experienced Leadership Development as a Peer Mentor for the Arts and Sciences Honors Program, where I have led freshman into the challenging new environment of college and served as a resource for them. I have satisfied the goal of Service Engagement through my ongoing volunteering with the Wexner Medical Center and the Red Cross. In both activities I have been a temperature screener during the pandemic, and I hope to engage in further service with the Columbus community once it is safe to do so.

G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: I grew up taking dance lessons, so I joined the DanceSport Club at Ohio State, which teaches and competes American and International styles of ballroom dancing. Through this club I have had the opportunity to learn the moves and the cultures of new dances such as Quickstep, Slow Foxtrot, Jive, and Samba.
  • Original Inquiry: Being an honors zoology major, I plan to purse research in zoology sometime as an upperclassman when I have completed my zoology major prerequisites.
  • Academic Enrichment: I plan to remain in the honors program, which encourages me to take honors courses that focus on critical thinking skills and expanding my base of knowledge.
  • Leadership Development: Being a leader doesn’t always involve an official leadership position. For example, DanceSport at OSU is a club sport team, which means that it represents the Ohio State University in regional competitions. Although I do not have a leadership position with this team, I still act as a leader by representing the buckeye community overtime I compete.
  • Service Engagement: Next semester I plan to participate in Buckeyethon, which raises funds to combat pediatric cancer. I also plan on spending my summers volunteering.
