My goals as a clinical instructor include:
- Getting to know each students learning style and gearing my instruction toward learner centered teaching by helping each student understand and grasp concepts of clinical practice.
- Incorporating evidence based practice in instruction as well as pointing out when and where it is practiced. Example ventilator protocols of suction and cleaning mouths every two hours to help prevent ventilator associated pneumonia.
- Allowing mistakes that do not reach the patient to happen, then have a debriefing at the end of each clinical to make sure that everyone understands what needs to be done as well as a time to answer any questions and discuss any feelings that occurred especially if a patient dies or a code is called.
- Giving each student an opportunity to lead and to follow as well as work together in teams to help them develop these skills.
- Ask students questions to help them develop their critical thinking skill.
- Help develop safe and effective nurses.
