week 6 DL

Artist 1

The objects in the pictures are all people. They choose people with strong relationships to bring out the emotion within. She says the people that she photographs must be emotional and they must have passion. She belives that a portrait is not what someone looks like but rather what someone has to say through their ideas and emotions. She has made pictures that exemplifies the ideas and struggles of her past to give the viewers a inside view on her life.

Artist 2

This artist expands the idea of art by actually taking of paper and taking to the earth to express her art. She takes the common idea of just talking and writing about social change she has taken to the land to, for example, give the line of crossing, in actual paint of the rocks in a river, of people crossing to the United States. I think it’s an interesting way to express ones self and I agree with the manor in which she has gone through with it.

David Goldblatt

His work is actually quite cool. It definitely sticks with me. He has devoted his life to photographing the social unrest in his home town in africa. He challenges norms by putting pictures out that not everyone wants to see but needs to see. He photographs the broken and saddest areas of his communities in a somehow beautiful way.

  • I saw drawing as just a way to most accurately represent something you are looking at and make it look real but I realize it is alot more than that.
  • The most challenging part of this class for me is to remember all the assignments due for the week and be able to do them all without forgetting.
  • The most relevant parts of the class have been learning to use new types of mark making tools
  • Least relevant parts of the class… Can’t think of anything super irrelevant
  • I need to improve in my usage of proportions
