Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

My peer mentor group had a common idea to go somewhere where there is food. On Monday November 4th, 2019 we all decided to go to Condados to taco out! It was a very good restaurant to go to. There was queso ordered for the table that barely had any taste, but the tacos on the other hand were delicious. We all got the chance to customize the structure of our tacos. I didn’t enjoy the music choice in the place and the theme of the interior design. I would’ve liked to get some ice cream from Jeni’s since I have a coupon for a free scoop, but it is too cold outside now. Next time I would’ve done this in the warmer part of the year. I would only recommend the tacos to a friend and not the queso we ordered for the table. Also the place was more of a bar so unless they are of age would I recommend the entire menu they offer.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Artifacts

The presented artifact is a KJV bible that was gifted to me. It was from a church member that taught the Sunday School at my church back home. It has my name engraved on it and an emblem that says “faith”. My religion means the world to me because it’s what gets me through the toughest and best times of my life. For those who don’t know, a bible is like a book of wisdom. Through both this artifact and my church back home, I have learned how to be patient when waiting for my blessings.  I have received guidance over my biggest setbacks that have caused me to lose hope in seeing better days. I believe I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the love of my church family consistently reminding me that I have a purpose in this world. Going forward I have been taught to become satisfied with life when I know I’ve helped others. This is part of the reason for joining HES, because I’d like to put my best foot forward when going into engineering. I’d like to keep in mind that I need to put others first when going into my career fields as a Civil Engineer, Project Manager, and a business owner. When in doubt, confused, or lost I have my bible to guide me into praying, reminding myself of who I am, and also who I do it for. If God doesn’t lead me, if people aren’t being helped, and if it doesn’t uplift me then it isn’t for me.

About Me

Hello my name is Kayla Johnson. I am at The Ohio State University studying Architecture minoring in City and Regional Planning. I have a kitty cat(his name is Mikko and he doesn’t meow)! I habitually seek out orange, neon, or striped clothing when I shop. I like to read in my free time and am currently discovering autobiography series as an interesting genre(Maya Angelou is a must read). I find cooking and baking as therapeutic hobbies of mine. My favorite scent is vanilla, favorite taste is caramel, and favorite sight is sunsets. I’m an advocate for women’s rights and for equality given to people of color. Being a Baptist has been the most rewarding thing in my life for me. I’ve also been able to receive my Associates the same week of obtaining my high school diploma this year of 2019. I’m a Taurus and I consistently have a desire to help others. As explained earlier, I want a business of my own solely to stop the consistency of businesses ignoring the needs of communities by becoming so overpowering. Everyday voices aren’t heard, but I will let mine and others be heard no matter what.

My greatest strengths are spirituality, appreciation of beauty and excellence, kindness, love of learning, and honesty. With all of the bias, discrimination, and stereotypes in the world I’d like to have a mindset rid of them. I also tend to dedicate my happiness to the happiness of others. The positivity of my environment and the people in it are so important to me. Seeing the electrified joy in people makes me happy. Since I’ve started incorporating the Baptist morals into my life I’ve found my absolute goal in life to be to uplift others. I have to love God, my neighbor, and myself equally. Any imbalances will have to be followed by immediate action for me to put my best foot forward. Nobody is perfect and life is not sunshine and flowers, but knowing what I’m capable of and in store for in the future reminds me of my purpose.
