It is important to send a thank you note or e-mail after every informational, phone or in-person interview. While expressing appreciation, thank you notes can help you reiterate your interest in the position, clear up confusion or issues from the interview, restate some ideas from the interview and stand out among other candidates.

 

Tips for Thank You Notes:

  • Make sure you make note of the names of each person that you encounter in the interview process
  • Send thank you e-mails or cards within 24 hours of the interview to each of these people

Components of Thank You Notes:

  1. Thank them for their consideration and time
  2. Name the position you were interviewing for (or discussing), date and location
  3. State your interest in the role and explain why you would be a good fit
  4. Steps to follow up and how you can be reached
  5. Closing and sign your name legibly (if handwritten)
