Phone Interviews

  • Dress professionally for the phone interview
  • Make sure your phone is charged
  • Have a glass of water on hand
  • Have a pen and paper to take notes
  • Know your experiences and qualifications, strengths and weaknesses
  • Do your research on the organization and demonstrate this knowledge
  • Have a copy of the job description, your resume and cover letter on hand
  • Go to a quiet location, where you will be undisturbed with no background noise

During the Interview:

  • Smile as you respond to each question to convey enthusiasm
  • Speak slowly
  • Develop a list of several questions to ask the employer towards the end of the interview
  • Do not discuss salary- reserve this conversation for when an offer is made
  • Send a thank you note or e-mail after the interview
