Informational interviews are used to seek advice and learn more about a particular position, organization or career path. Their purpose is to obtain information, rather than to obtain a job. Informational interviews can also help build your professional network. 

 

Tips for Informational Interviews: 

  • Politely request an informational interview (usually via e-mail, so they can respond at their convenience) 
  • Schedule a time that is most convenient for the person you are interviewing  
  • Dress professionally  
  • Develop a list of questions for your interview, as you will be leading the conversation  
  • Be on-time  
  • Send a thank you note or e-mail after the interview
