Do.

In my family, Easter is a big day.  We celebrate it almost as much as we do with Christmas!  When I found out I was unable to be with my parents and my sister on Easter Sunday, I was disappointed.  Luckily, I have met an amazing friend through my sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, who invited me to spend Easter with her family in Columbus.  We all went boating at Alum Creek and I had an amazing day filled with food, fun, and friends.   I am so blessed to have been able to meet incredible people here at Ohio State and I can’t wait to see what other memories I will make during my years here.

Go.

Through HSS, I was able to go to the Columbus Zoo with some of my friends! Not only did we get a few hours to explore the zoo ourselves, we also were able to go on a private tour of the Manatee exhibit!  It was amazing to see all of the intricate systems that help maintain their very sensitive environment.  Our tour group was even lucky enough to feed some of the sting rays living in the manatee exhibit!  Out of all the things we were lucky enough to do that day, I would say my favorite was meeting Paul: the pelican who lives in the manatee exhibit!

Career

I think after completing my Strategic Life Plan I have a better understanding of what my Plan A and Plan B are.  I feel more comfortable knowing that is pharmacy school doesn’t work out, I still have the option of becoming a dietician.  If I get to the point where I cannot decide what I want to do with my life, I know there are plenty of campus resources that will help facilitate my decision.

In order to stay healthy while I am in school, I will set aside at least 30 minutes each day for myself that does not involve academic, extracurricular, or social commitments.  I am going to use that time to either work out, meditate, or reflect on things I am thankful for.  I think I will be able to stick with this plan because it can only be beneficial to me if I do.  Having those 30 minutes to myself will allow me to distress and refresh in order to be more productive and aware in my academic, extracurricular, and social functions in the future.

In addition to all of the amazing technological resources on campus, the faculty members, upperclassmen, university staff members can help me throughout my college experience.  They are able to provide me with wisdom that you cannot necessarily get from a book or a website.  It is nice to know that Ohio State is full of people who only want to watch me succeed and will try their best to help me whenever possible.

In my future years here at Ohio State, I hope to grow as a person by getting more involved with a club and truly finding my passion.  My plan is that I find an organization on campus that I can dedicate a good part of my time too in order to make difference in the world no matter how small.  When I graduate, I aspire to be a confident, successful person who has a bright future ahead of her and I know that being at Ohio State will help me reach that goal.

Eat.

A few weeks ago, I went to a cafe downtown called Alchemy with my friend Claire.  We decided to be adventurous and try one of those trendy acai bowls.  I tried the chocolate avocado bowl and in my opinion, it was delicious! I highly recommend Alchemy to anyone and I am looking forward to my next visit!

About Me

IMG_6426

Hello! My name is Sarah Jicomelli and I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  I graduated from Canon-McMillan High School and am so very excited to start my time here at OSU. In high school I was a part of Honor Roll, The National Society of High School Scholars, and Honor Society.  I also graduated in the top ten percent of my class.  From my sophomore year to my senior year I was our class Treasurer and loved how I was involved in many important decisions like creating a school mascot and planning our senior prom. Throughout high school I was involved in many clubs and organizations from Spanish Club to Ski Club to Student Council.  Out of all the activities I was able to do in high school, the most important ones to me were my trips to Spain and Italy with my peers. I love traveling so much and consider myself very lucky to have been able to travel to Europe twice with my school.  I am so passionate about traveling because it not opens up your eyes to different types of cultures, but your mind as well.  I feel one becomes more accepting and understanding when they are taken out of their own “bubble” and thrown into something completely out of their comfort zone.  Traveling really shapes a person in the most positive ways.  When I traveled to Spain I could barely speak Spanish, but I felt I learned more about the language from the ten days that I was there than from the three years of Spanish I had previously taken.  The picture above is of me signing Juliet’s Balcony in Verona, one of my favorite experiences from my trip to the beautiful country of Italy.  Before traveling to Verona I had been a fan of the story of Romeo and Juliet and seeing a space as iconic has her balcony was really meaningful to me.  I hope I continue to have opportunities like I did in high school to travel because I do believe they helped me become a more well rounded person and student.

My academic goals as a student at OSU are to graduate as a Doctor of Pharmacy.  I have already taken the first step to reaching my goal by being accepted into the E.A.P. program for the College of Pharmacy.  During my academic career here I know I can be very successful with the resources OSU has offered me as well as putting in hard work and dedication to reaching my goal.  When I graduate after eight years of college as a Doctor of Pharmacy I hope to get a job as a community pharmacist in a growing, young city like Nashville or even Vancouver.  I know the road will be tough getting there, but the reward at the end is something I have dreamed of my whole life.
