1930 – Frank Whittle patented the first turbojet engine design.

1935 – Whittle began construction on the first turbojet engine.

1936 – Von Ohain patented his own turbojet engine design.

April, 1937 – Whittle had a successful test run of the first turbojet engine

Sept, 1937 – Ohain successfully test his turbojet engine a few months later.

1939 – Von Ohain was the first to fly with a turbojet engine of his own.

1941 – Frank Whittle finally flew his turbojet engine.

1952 – The first commercial jet flies from London to Johannesburg on the DH 106 Comet.

Dec. 1964 – The first supersonic jet took flight in the SR-71.

March. 1969 – History was made when the first commercial supersonic jet took flight in the Concorde.
