Final Design

My final design is a floor pillow that I hand crocheted the exterior of, its filling is made of fabric scraps from old clothing. The design on the top of the pillow is taken directly from the artwork I had previously made using my tool, also drawing further inspiration from the tool, it uses a spiral crochet pattern that is reminiscent of the motion that the tool had when it was in use.

The pattern is from Yarn and Chai, I altered it for my project, but it is a method that I was already aware of, I simply needed a refresher. I did not included the mosaic pattern that it mentions, just the base poof pattern which I then shortened into a pillow.

It is a base pattern for a technique called Smooth Circle Increasing in which it alternates the increase/decrease spots between rows of the top or bottom rounds. I also used a technique called Tapestry Crocheting which allowed me to switch between colors for the pattern on top.

Patterning and Shape

The final object that I am creating is a floor poof in a cylindrical shape, it will be reminiscent of my tool in shape, but also thought the patterning.

I have layered my crochet work on top of a paper sketch that I will be using to guide my color changes. This will be the top of the poof along with the patterning it will have.

This is a spiral crocheting  method that begins in at a central point, it builds outwards. I plan to combine this with the tapestry crocheting method in the previous post.

Material Testing

This is a successful test of a crocheting technique called Tapestry Crocheting. I will be using this type of crocheting for the rest of my project.

Project Updates

With the new class structure I have adapted my objectives to the following:

  • I will create a form (that is to be further defined), out of woven yarn, to create a tapestry that conveys feeling/narrative.
  • The tapestry will take inspiration from the art I previously created with my tool.
