- Description: Mochi (a sticky type of rice) is an important part to New Year’s in Japan. Kagami mochi is an arrangement placed in the household consisting of two mochi stacked on a stand and a small orange on top. It traditional serves as an offereing to the deities that visit on New Year’s.
