• Description: Rice cultivation and consumption has played a fundamental role in Japanese food culture. The word “meal” in Japanese is gohan, which also translates to steamed rice. A traditional Japanese meal typically consists of rice, miso soup, fish or a meat, pickled vegetables, and a side dish.
