Aizome Indigo Dye
Included in Visual Arts box
- Description: Aizome refers to an indigo blue dye used to color various fabrics. Aizome originally came to Japan from South East Asia. The dye is made out of sukumo leaves, fusuma (wheat bran), sake, lime, and hardwood ash. There are many shades of Aizame, and each is determined by the amount of time the fabric is soaked in the dye. Longer durations result in a deeper color.
