- Description: Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangements. They are beautifully arranged cut stems, leaves, and flowers put in vases and other containers. The art of Ikebana has been studied and practiced for over seven centuries. Many people attend ikebana classes for three to five years in order to master the technical skills required to arrange the flowers and stems beautifully. Three common arrangement styles for bowl-shaped vases are: rikka (standing flowers), seika or shoka (living flowers), and nageire (flung flowers). For dish-like containers, the moribana style (piled-up flowers) is the most common.
