- Description: Japan has a long history of producing various crafts and goods out of straw, especially rice straw, as Japan is culture centered around wet-rice agriculture. Some of these crafts include hats, coats, capes, sandals, boots, cushions, and various decorative items. These hand crafted items were once prevalent, however younger generations seem to be losing interest in continuing the tradition.
