Paper Dolls
Included in Daily Life box, Visual Arts box
- Description: Flat paper dolls, shiori ningyō, are often used as a bookmark. They are most often modeled after a woman wearing a traditional kimono, are typically adorned with elaborate hair styles and accessories, and are flat versions of the three dimensional Anesama Ningyō (Big Sister Doll). A daily play toy for little girls in the past, they are now sold as gifts and collector’s items. Enthusiasts often make their own from scratch, or by purchasing pre-made “kits”.
