- Description: Born in 1760, Katsushika Hokusai was a prominent ukiyo-e (wood block print) artist, well known for his works depicting Mt. Fuji. A prolific artist, it is said that he had produced over 30,000 paintings throughout his life, and his works have influenced western artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Mile Gall. One of his most famous collections of ukiyo-e are the 36 Views of Mount Fuji, which depict Mt. Fuji from a variety of different angles, seasons, and weather conditions.
