• Description: Folding fans, sensu, offer a refreshing sensation in Japan’s hot summers. Many consist of decorated paper glued to a bamboo framework, and are sold at relatively cheap prices all around Japan. There are some luxury folding fans that use sandalwood or ebony as frames. Such fans can be seen as an accessory to a Kimono outfit, as well as every day “typical” attire, and can even be used as props in performances.
