Honor Contract Reflection

  1. Global Awareness: In my time at Ohio State, I have gained global awareness through my GE requirements for the Honors Arts & Sciences College. To meet my GE requirement I had to take three semesters of a foreign language and another GE to fulfill my global studies GE requirement. For my foreign language I have taken Spanish II and III at Ohio State after testing out of Spanish I. Spanish III was especially helpful in teaching more about Spanish cultures around the globe, giving me a better global perspective. For one of my global studies GE, I took the History of Modern West Africa which was more interesting than I anticipated it being. I learned a lot about culture that had not prior experience or exposure in. The things that I learned in class have shaped the way I view the world and including how I view my own culture.
  2. Original Inquiry: Last year as a freshman at Ohio State, I learned more about the creative process behind acting when I took my an introductory course in acting. Before, I had no experience in theater or acting but after taking that course, I feel like I gain a better understanding of what it takes to put on an acting performance. I can appreciate the time and creative effort takes to really bring a character to life on stage or on screen.
  3. Academic Enrichment: My planned courses on my Honors Contract demonstrate a commitment to academic enrichment. The courses that I have chose to fulfill my honors GE requirements are diverse and include many subjects that I have no prior experience in. I chose those classes on purpose because I recognize the importance of have a large breath of knowledge about a diverse set of topics. Both of majors also make me more well rounded because I am pursuing two degrees from different colleges. Both of my majors will help me pursue a career in sports media or marketing in the future.
  4. Leadership Development: At Ohio State, I am currently involved in two main student organizations. This past year I was accepted into the Student-Alumni Council (SAC) and I was placed on the membership committee of Block “O.” In addition to these student organizations, I will be a part of the Bucket and Dipper Junior Honorary next year. The Student-Alumni Council is helping me to develop into a better leader because I am taking a leadership position in organization next year. SAC has already taught so much about leading others and I’m excited to apply what I learned next year as I become the program coordinator for International Student Engagement. Block “O” relates to my career goals of going into sports. Participating in Block “O” events has help me gain a better knowledge and appreciation for all sports which is essential to my career goals.
  5. Service Engagement: Through my membership with SAC, I am presented while a variety if service opportunities that help impact Ohio State’s campus. The bulk of my service in past has come through my involvement with Block “O.” In Block “O” our philanthropy is with Special Olympics, Ohio and this past semester we have put on a football tournament to help raise money for it. I am looking forward to gaining more service experience under my belt next year with my membership in Bucket and Dipper. We have already been planning some of the service opportunities that we will pursue in the fall.
