Final Blog Post

Upon reading the course description of 1159 and discovering that I was taking the course, i was assuming that the work load wouldn’t be as in-depth and intricate. The most important skill I picked up from taking 1159 was the efficient use of time. It is often underestimated how difficult it is to learn how to get the best product out of all of your time. This summer I struggled with learning how to balance out plating football, & manage course work and studying for three classes. For the most part i remained efficient but slacked off a good amount. Ultimately I succeed in doing so but throughout the summer I’ve had a few slip ups.  The course gave me  more in both understanding of online educational technology, that in the future could be very resourceful for me. This class thought me how to use the correct resources when trying to find information for a research paper. The Purdue Owl is a great website that I found very useful for citing sources for research papers. The part of the class that I think helped my the most would have to be when we did a whole section on how to manage time.  Time management is the most important thing in college because it is very easy to forget to complete an assignment and then all of your other class homework combine together and then become a huge obstacle to overcome. When I first got to campus my time management skill were horrible, not saying they are perfect now but i am taking steps headed the right direction. Through the google calendar assignment I learned how to create an online schedule that helps me keep my days balanced and organized. Another thing i found useful from the class was learning about the google scholars web portion. I never knew about it before i took this class and it seems to very useful when you need to find a trustworthy source with great detail.  Most importantly this class made me learn that my time management skill are not even close to where they should be and that i have horrible problem procrastinating. Procrastination is one of those bad habits that mod people have but the only differentiator is to what extent the individual procrastinates. Procrastinating, for my self has always been a big problem, I have always tended to putting off things until the last minute. While taking this douse i picked up the skill how to prevent reaching the level of procrastination but starting assignments earlier and breaking it into parts  with dead lines and meeting those dead lines. I have already started to apply some of the things I have learned throughout 1159 into everyday situations.for the most part I try to organize my day my day based on  to my schedule do my very best to stay on top of everything which is a lot harder than it seem. I have attempted to apply some of the anti procrastination keys. I break down big assignments into little parts and try to chip away at it piece by piece until it is all finished or i have approached my dead line. I have not started to use the Purdue Owl yet but I intend on using the system to help me cite my sources when I am given a research paper. While doing future research projects iI will definitely input the use of google scholar into my plan

Web Enhanced Listening and Viewing Strategies

Within module 5 we studied multiple Web Enhanced Listening and Viewing Strategies. I particularly found this module import and because I find it harder to comprehend material if I am reviewing it online or listening to it via podcast. The tips and strategies that I found most useful while listening is to identify the main points. I found that most important because sometimes when I listen to educational videos I hear the video and one big thing and never really take the time out to mentally break the video up into its own organized information sections. That can be a problem because when you are trying to recall the information then your recall will not be organized or accurate. My favorite method of recalling what was visually learned is to visually recall the information by doing a mind map. Mind maps are pst effective ofr me because I get to organize my thought on the paper just as I see them. Overall Module 5 was an informative section that I think will help me successfully listen view and learn in the future.

Video Post

Here is a good video explaining supply and demand.

This video details the economical concept of supply and demand. The video also touches on the topics that go along with the section, Equilibrium Price and Quantity.

This video supplements my prior knowledge of supply and demand concepts not only providing audio but visuals to show me graphs of various supply and demand examples.

Reading Strategies and Creative learning

In module 4, we reviewed strategies for effective reading and studying.

The tips for effective reading. Before you start reading anything, ask yourself why you’re reading it. Are you reading with a purpose, or just for pleasure? What do you want to know after you’ve read it?

Know How Deeply to Study the Material

Where you only need the shallowest knowledge of a subject, you can skim material. Here you read only chapter headings, introductions, and summaries.

Read Actively

When you’re reading a document or book in detail, it helps if you practice “active reading” by highlighting and underlining key information, and Taking notes as you progress. Mind maps work for this. This emphasizes information in your mind, and helps you to review important points later.

Know How to Study Different Types of Material

Different types of documents hold information in different places and in different ways, and they have different depths and breadths of coverage. Such as a website may have tabs as to a book has a table of contents

Alvarez’s Time Management

As a college student one of the number on priorities is time management. It is important to organize designated times for various activities that you may have to do such as homework or study halls. You should always stay on top of your class syllabus. If you know the due dates for specific assignments and the time frames for quizzes, papers and exams, you’ll be able to spread out the necessary school work. It is also important to create a manageable plan as for completing the work because, creating a plan will balance your workload and minimize the possibility for those dreaded, but sometimes necessary, all-night cram sessions. Scheduling ahead of time may be a good idea to to the easy procrastination that may take you over. Procrastination sometimes results in rushing to get the assignment done in the few hours that you have left before it is due. As you go along and complete assignments it may be a good idea to check them off as you go. Checking off completed assignments on an actual list gives you a visual of how much you have left. Most of all STAY ORGANIZED, a cluttered workspace or notebook leads to cloudy unclear thoughts and work. Take advantage of some tips I have shared with you.
