What Makes You

http://25.media.tumblr.com/

I’ve been going through a lot recently, and this quote has inspired me.  Yes, it’s from a Kardashian, but who knows more about being beaten down in this world and finding a way to stand back up than Khloe?  Honestly, out of the whole Kardashian klan (see what I did there?), she’s always been my favorite.  I feel like I can relate to her when it comes to not being able to have a baby, and seeing her life crumble to her feet in the past year, yet she’s been so strong, is truly inspiring.  I know this world is harsh and at times, you’re going to feel like you just can’t take it, but in those times you have to remain standing.  “How strong you stand is what makes you.”  I’m going to stand strong, and if I have to go down, I’m going down swinging.

Where’s the remote?

Sometimes, life gets hard, and it’s so easy for us to sit back and wait for something to happen.  It’s like we think some miraculous event is going to take place and change everything for us and make our lives better and more enjoyable.  Why do we do that?  If we want something to change, we have to change it ourselves!  This blog is going to be short and sweet, because honestly, there isn’t much more to say.  If you want something, you have to get it for yourself; if something’s broken, you have to put effort into it and fix it.  If you don’t put forth the effort, then you can’t complain when nothing gets better.

Money and Success

This quote says it all.  If you are gracious and giving as a poor person, you will be even more gracious and giving with money.  If you don’t treat people with respect when you’re not a big shot, you’re surely not going to start when you get money.  People are who they are, and certain circumstances in life help us see them for their true being.  If you can’t be a “good” person when you are scraping by and reaching for success, then you won’t be a “good” person once you gain status and money.

Happiness is…

“Most folks are about as happy as they make their minds up to be.”
~ Abraham Lincoln ~

This quote really resounds to me right now.  I’m surrounded by people who are unhappy with their lives and think that it’s either everyone else’s fault or there’s nothing they can do about it.  Instead of being happy with where they are and what they’ve achieved, they’re worried about where they need to go, should be, or haven’t accomplished.  It’s sad.  I’ve seen people make some horrible decisions, move across the country, and give up the best parts of their lives because they can only focus on the negative.  Happiness is a state of mind, not a state in the U.S., and that is not seen by everyone.  I can’t judge, and I’m not trying to.  I’ve been there, to that place where you can’t see the light, and it sucks.  But at some point, you have to pick yourself up and make the decision to be happy.  I just hope those people around me can figure that out.

Life in Quotes

Honestly, blogging is a bit hard on me.  I’m not the type of person to post my every thought on Facebook or Twitter.  I mostly post quotes and song lyrics because that’s what I use as motivation for my daily life, so… that inspired how I’m going to finish out my blogs.  I figure each day I can start with a quote and then explain why it appeals to me.
“I would rather be remembered as the girl who tried and failed than the girl who never tried at all.”
~ Me ~
RememberedWhat better quote to start with than one of my own?  This is something I said a few years ago while auditioning for American Idol, and it has stuck with me ever since.  Putting yourself out there for the world to judge and critique is hard to so, and the fear of failing tends to keep people (myself included) from trying things they love.  I decided I wasn’t going to live that way anymore.  So what if I come in last?  So what if I fall flat on my face?  At least I can say I tried to achieve a goal instead of just sat back and lived in a dream world.  Now, I write my own music and audition for talent competitions all the time.  Do I win?  Not always… but I win the admiration and respect of those around me, and I’m more proud of myself than I ever have been.  So go ahead, remember me as the girl who failed… at least you’re remembering me 😉

Back to bloggin’

I can’t believe I’ve been blogging incorrectly for the past few weeks, and on top of that, deleted everything!  I can build an educational website, but don’t ask me to blog apparently.  Haha.

Today was a really good day, especially in class.  I enjoyed receiving feedback from everyone about my page and I’m looking forward to enhancing it now.  I also really liked seeing people go through their own pages and explore the content together.  I think everyone had really great topics, and I’m impressed at how much went into everyone’s pages.  I was happy to learn about using different types of media in my own pages, and I’m looking forward to incorporating them.  I’m working on a scholarships page, so hopefully that’ll be up and running by the end of the term, also.  This class has just been great at helping me with my professional goals.  I feel so ready to take on the task at hand of revamping our college’s webpage now!

Learning the Ropes

I’m really enjoying the Photoshop projects!  I could spend countless hours going through all of my old photos and editing them… but I won’t.  I also liked learning about the rule of threes.  I’ve already started applying it to my personal photos and hope to use it more effectively while creating my new financial aid webpage.  It’s amazing how something so simple can change your entire view of a photo!
