Campus Area Dining Options:
(Please note that you might want to consider heading to the Short North area or German Village for dinner. There are several dining options near campus, the majority of which are student-oriented and will be crowded during lunch. See options below.)

 

Ethnic Cuisine:

  • Blue Nile: Ethiopian (2/3 mile walk north)
  • Diaspora: Korean
  • Adriatico’s: Pizza
  • Mad Mex: Mexican
  • **Rook’s Tavern: Southern cuisine, very nice people
  • Moy’s Chinese (no alcohol served)
  • Yau’s Chinese bistro (no alcohol served); great karaoke just behind it
  • The Ohio Union has all sorts of campus-y food and Sloopy’s sit-down restaurant: American
  • Chop Shop (1/2 mile walk north): American Burgers and bar (http://www.chopshop614.com)

Bars:

Bistros and Cafés: (For such a huge university, coffee options are not superb)

  • **Bistro 2110 (at The Blackwell Inn)
  • Heirloom in The Wexner Center for the Arts (downstairs), a few minutes from The Ohio Union (order at counter). Good quality campus café with decent espresso. It will be packed with the conference, so keep the wait in mind.
  • Kafe Keruoac just north of campus is good
  • Starbucks is across the street from the Union
  • Crane café in Hagerty Hall (which houses the French and Italian Department)

*All along High Street (bordering The Union) has all sorts of campus-y places (Chipotle, chicken and pizza places, and the like).

 

Short North/Victorian Village/Italian Village/Downtown Dining:
(Just south of campus, about a .8-1.5 mile walk/Lyft/cab/bus. The Short North is great for walking/galleries)

Dining:

  • **Basi Italia: Italian, lovely patio, very small
  • **Rossi: Great local place;
  • **Guild House (A Cameron Mitchell restaurant; local chef who owns many restaurants throughout Columbus): Upscale bistro-ish in new art-boutique hotel
  • Condado: Tacos, lots of them
  • Late Night Slice: Late night pizza by the slice
  • **Level: Lounge/eclectic
  • Philco Bar + Diner
  • **The Pearl (Cameron Mitchell restaurant): Tavern/Oysters
  • **The Table: Locally sourced
  • **Wolf’s Ridge Brewing: Great food and local brewery, a bit south of The Short North
  • **Forno Kitchen + Bar: New American and great wood-fired pizzas
  • **Martini Modern Italian (Cameron Mitchell restaurant): Contemporary Italian
  • Marcella’s (Cameron Mitchell restaurant): Italian-American

Coffee/Tea:

  • Mission
  • Fox in the Snow

  • Zen Cha Tea
  • Café Apropos (serves wine and snacks)

Pastries/Brunch/Coffee/Dessert:

  • Laughlin’s Bakery

Bars/Cocktails/Breweries

  • All over the place; it is super packed with bars
  • Union: great gay bar
  • Rossi: open late; local hangout
  • Axis: Fun GLBT dance club
  • Oddfellow’s Liquor Bar
  • James Tavern: old school, good for pool
  • Brother’s Drake Meadery: for those who like Mead and good local bands
  • Seventh Son: Wonderful local brewery. Always a food truck on site
  • Middle West Spirits: locally made vodka, gin, and such
  • Bodega (decent food as well)
  • North High Brewing: great local brewery
  • Pins Mechanical Company: large bar downtown with pinball, ping-pong tables, duckpin bowling (reserve a space in advance at it fills up fast), and more!

The North Market: Wonderful indoor market right behind The Hampton hotel that has amazing options. But don’t miss:

  • Pastries/brunch/coffee: Pistacia Vera
  • Vegetarian deliciousness: Little Eater
  • The Vietnamese place has great pho

 

German Village
(10ish minute Lyft/cab ride; the free Cbus circulator travels from Short North to German Village; lovely historic neighborhood)

Dining:

  • **Sycamore: Tavern/Gastropub
  • **Rockmill Tavern: Tavern from a wonderful local brewery
  • **Lindey’s: Upscale bistro (lovely patio)
  • **G Michael’s: Southern inspired
  • **Barcelona: Spanish/tapas (lovely patio)
  • Harvest: Really good pizza (does not take reservations)
  • Brown Bag: sandwiches
  • Katzinger’s: sandwiches (sandwiches are a bit pricey but huge)
  • Thurman’s: it is legendary on The Food Network et. al.

Coffee:

  • Winan’s: (makes wonderful chocolate)
  • Stauf’s

Pastries/Brunch/Coffee/Dessert:

  • Pistacia Vera (amazing)
  • The famous Jeni’s Splendid Ice creams
