Global Engagement Opportunity

The OSU-UT MEXT Grant Project

Toward an “Inclusive Smart Society“: A society where people of diverse backgrounds play an equal leading role based on innovative technology

Students from the University of Tsukuba and Ohio State University will participate and collaborate from all fields to propose innovative ideas that will change society, involve local governments and private companies, and support the process of social implementation. The goal of the program is to develop human resources who can play a leading role in solving global issues from the bottom up and building a society in which diverse people can coexist in harmony, as well as nurturing talent for international social startups.

The Ohio State University and The University of Tsukuba have a longstanding partnership. Beginning in 2023, University of Tsukuba was awarded the MEXT grant from the Japanese Ministry. The purpose of the grant project is to  collaborate with OSU to offer coursework and faculty, staff, and student mobility opportunities around the concept of the inclusive smart society (ISS). This collaboration has been bolstered by the twin designations of Tsukuba City as one of Japan’s smart cities1 and the Smart Columbus initiative. Ohio State partner units include: Office of International Affairs, College of Education and Human Ecology, College of Engineering, and College of Arts and Sciences.

Participation is open to all OSU students.
