Raw minerals from the Democratic Republic of Congo and adjoining countries may contribute income or other benefits for the armed groups that violate human rights. These minerals are called “ conflict minerals”. (“What are Conflict Minerals?”)

Samsung expands its production to the company’s Austin, Texas facility and its partner GlobalFoundries’ New York plant in the near future. (macrumors)

The aim of Samsung is to achieve supply contracts from Apple and compete with other rivals. Like Samsung, many other foreign companies expand their facilities in US and local companies also improve their capacity. In other words, such healthy competition boosts US production.

GT Advanced Technologies is an example. Though they invest credits gained from Apple into their new facilities in Mesa, Arizona, an effort to bring production back to the US, they eventually faced the case of liquidation.( mercurynews)

Healthy competition doesn’t mean every company that boosts US production can gain profit. Even they may face bankruptcy.
